History

Our university first began with the Sports and Sanitation group to manage all sports-related administration, sports education, sports competition and sanitation and health care matters for the university.
For years, due to the rapid increase in governance needs and progressive growth in student number, individual facilities have constantly been installed. Research on education consistently improved. Since the 76th academic year, our university introduced options in the sports program for students according to their interest. The work in professional sports increased in time and the faculty became unable to handle the new challenges.

The demand for internal and external sports competition has been increasing. Other than the annual competitive events on individual sports, our university has been chosen to hold the 78th academic year National Intercollegiate Athletic Games. Since the 76th academic year, the Sports and Sanitation group was replaced by the new Physical Education Office and restructured to the current Faculty of Sports according to the university on the 84th academic year. The Faculty of Sports is divided into three groups - the educational research group, competition event group and venue facilities group. The first supervisor of the Faculty of Sports is Professor Chang Hui-feng. The current supervisor is Professor Huang Hsien-chung. Both of them contributed greatly to the physical education and activities. The Gymnasium has been well planned and operated before and after the restructuring by many supervisors include Professor Ma Liang, Professor Chia Chih-lin, Professor Hsieh Ping-fan, Professor Chu Yun-peng, Professor Chao Ping-cheng, Professor Chang Hui-feng, Associate Professor Huang Ching-huang, Associate Professor Wang Cheng-sung, Professor Chang Miao-ying, Professor He Chuan-chin, Associate Professor Wang Yao-tsung, and Professor Chen Ming-kun. Their contribution to the establishment is undeniable. With the help of all the co-workers, our work has become more effective. We will continue to gather our strength in order to further improve our work.

 Installed Facilities

During the period of the agricultural college, the sports facilities only included one tracking field, four basketball courts, two volleyball courtsand two tennis courts. With the planning and operation of the past supervisors, the scale has been greatly expanded to a total of 4 acres including gymnasium (badminton court, combined court, dance studio, billiard room, first and second fitness gym, multi-functional classroom), swimming pool, tracking field, golf practicing range, indoor basketball court, outdoor volleyball court, outdoor combined court, rough ground tennis court, red ground tennis court, rock climbing site and ice rink.

The period of the provincial agricultural academy (December 1945 - July 1961) From 1956 to 1961, the university had its budget increased annually. The appearance of various faculties had greatly improved. The overall improvement of the sports field includes the original tracking field, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, one horizontal bar court, etc. The space for physical exercise has been increased.

The period of Taiwan provincial Chung Hsing University (August 1961 - 1971) During the period as a provincial University, Chung Hsing development in its campus was even faster compared to the time when it was an agricultural academy. The campus has grown to become saturated. During this period, headmaster Liu Tao-yuen believed that it was their primary need to expand the campus.

Starting from 1967, he planned and appealed to change the city planning and expand the campus to the south all the way from Zhongming South Road to the county river border, including rearranging the budget, land acquisition and work required in expansion. Starting from 1972, there were 215 deals related to land purchase awaiting registration and acquisition. Other than the common citizen's land, there was a private company that was building a set of houses, now currently located at the tracking field. A total of 36 residential units were also located in the acquisition area. After bargaining and coordination, the acquisition proceeded with an improvement of public facilities, such that later the neighborhood was known as “Hsing Ta no.7.” It was built for residential use and offered to the staff at the university. The neighborhood was relocated in 1980 and replaced by a new 400m tracking field.
In 2016, due to the increase in population and high demand for sporting facilities, the original space for the fitness facilities could no longer satisfy the need. A second gymnasium was added to provide a better environment for sports to the staff and students. The original ice rink located to the west of the gymnasium was found to have safety issues and poor water drainage due to aging. In order to improve the planning of the area for sporting activities and offer the nearby neighborhood, staff, and students a safe and multi-functional sporting environment, a new ice rink has been built on the west side of the grassland located at the underpass of Zhongming South Road. In 2017, the site of the old ice rink on the west of the gymnasium has been replaced by a red ground tennis court. The construction was completed in December 2017. This new tennis court is planned for physical education use and rental to internal and external groups in order to support the asset. It could also improve the health and interaction between the campus and the nearby neighborhood. In 2018, the university cooperates with Taichung city government to organize the 2019 East Asian Youth Games. For this purpose, the 2/F of the gymnasium has added a badminton court, billiard room and sparring room (later renamed as “multi-functional classroom”). In order to coordinate with the university plan to promote the “Sustainable smart community and innovative proven demonstration plan,” the gymnasium has replaced the old lightings with a smart controlled payment system installed to offer a well-established sporting environment that also greatly reduced energy consumption.
